401081 Organisational Governance and Performance Management

Becoming a professional in this field requires knowledge of how organisations are best managed and structured, the skills to articulate and implement reforms and measure system performance to ensure agreed outcomes. This unit aims to introduce the concepts of organisational governance commencing with the WHO perspective and analysing Australian reform activities. Upon successfully completing this unit, you should be able to:

1 Analyse and apply the principles and elements of the National Health Reform (NHR)

2 Discuss the implementation of the reform agenda at Federal and State level

3 Apply the provider - purchaser model in the provision of public hospital services and explain how it operates through Service Agreements

4 Evaluate the principles of organisational performance management in the context of reform

5 Critically discuss the performance measures and their value, including safety, quality, finance and efficiency and the tools and reports for monitoring and performance

6 Discuss the building and application of models that assist development / growth, purchase of service and improvement of performance

7 Critically evaluate health reforms in other countries with particular reference to performance measures and governance

8 Evaluate systems to provide feedback of organisational performance to improve system performance
