Aim of assessment

Choose a health promotion initiative relevant to your area of clinical practice and analyse in relation to social determinants of health. The assessment is designed to meet unit learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3. Completion of this assignment will enable students to discriminate between the broad range of social determinants of health that can inflfluence the health of the community (LO 1), critically analyse international, national, and state policy on health promotion (LO 2), as well as provide an opportunity for students to collaborate and liaise with colleagues from other disciplines (LO 3). This assessment aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge to critically analyse an existing health promotion initiative.

Details

You are required to choose a health promotion initiative which is relevant to your area of clinical practice andanalyse it in relation to social determinants of health. In the essay, you will be required to:

1. Identify the health promotion initiative you have chosen (what, where, when, what is the goal/expected out comes).

2. Identify and describe the broad social determinants of health which can impact on the health of the community(Students enrolled in offff shore programs may focus on the broad social determinants of health which can impact on the health of their own community or country).

3. Explain at least three (3) social determinants of health that are addressed or not addressed in your chosen health promotion initiative. Provide evidence from recent, relevant literature to support your discussion.

4. Critically discuss the inflfluence of social determinants of health on the planning and development of the health promotion initiative. In addition, if the health promotion initiative has already been formally evaluated, you may wish to examine the inflfluence of social determinants of health on the outcomes of your chosen health promotion initiative.

5. Synthesis and critical appraisal of the literature is required to support your arguments in all sections of the essay.
