Identify:

a) two (2) significant events in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander history.

b) explain the impact of each of these events on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of today.

6. Identify one (1) service within your community that would assist you to obtain local knowledge about Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture.

7. Identify one (1) other service within your community that would assist you to obtain knowledge about local cultural groups in your area (different to your response to Question 6).

Onkar is a four year old boy who is enrolling at your education and care service. Onkar and his family are from India, and have been in Australia for 6 months.

You discover that in India, Onkar’s mother was a dance teacher and his father was a tour guide. Now that they are in Australia, they are working hard to establish an Indian restaurant.

Natalie is Italian. At home her family speaks Italian and English and Natalie will sometimes use Italian words when talking to the other children. You hear Archie turn around and say to Natalie, “That’s not a macchina, it’s a car”.

b) One that is relevant to cultural competence

a) Describe three (3) examples of how the cultural identities of the families at your service are reflected in the service environment, resources, relationships and/or experiences.

b) Provide three (3) suggestions of how you can build on current practices to further embed diversity into your daily practices/routine.

Question 22.

Describe at least one (1) example of a time when you have engaged with other educators to support children’s specific cultural needs.

Question 24.

In consultation with your Workplace Supervisor, use the following format to plan and implement one (1) group experience at your education and care service that fosters positive attitudes towards inclusivity and broadens children’s perspectives and approaches towards cultural diversity. Your learning experience should focus on events, customs or beliefs that are relevant to the children and families within your service.

Question 25.

The Workplace Supervisor must verify that a student consistently demonstrates particular skills in the workplace. The Third Party Report is completed by the Workplace Supervisor and is used to support the overall assessment of each unit.
