The goal of this task is to design, research, and develop game components for distribution, apply and communicate technical skills, frameworks and organisational practices to contribute to the development of serious games.
Game Prototype
Application of technical skills and frameworks.
•Development of game components for distribution
•Demonstration of knowledge in game programming
Your game must be as polished as possible, although no marks are given or penalised for using “programmer art” assets. i.e. you must include all of the meshes/particles/audio that you can, but using placeholder (“grey box”) assets is sufficient! Check out #greyboxing on Twitter for inspiration. Don’t forget to do your lighting– even a grey-boxed level can look fantastic with the right bit of lighting!
Your prototype must include the following elements to be considered “complete”:
• A main menu, including:
o Instructions on how to play the game o An about screen with your name and ID o Play and Quit buttons
• A core bit of gameplay, as described by your technical specs o Handle player Input
o Update the world based on some logic
o Output the state of the game (and relevant “events”) using visual and auditory cues
• A game over screen
o If you have a “win” condition, then there should be separate game over screens for wins/losses.
o If you have a “score”, it should be displayed on the game over screen
§ (If you wish to use a persistent “high score” mechanic, examine using Save Games)
