Task 1

1.Provide a list of the Australian cultural ‘norms’ around business.  Think about:

?The relaxed nature of the Australian lifestyle
?The formality of business meetings
?Clothing, mannerisms, figures of speech
?The impact of language, climate and cultural heritage
?The balance of relationships
?The myths of mateship, fair go, Aussie battlers
?The impact of sport on business
?The impact of advertsing.

2.Now take another culture (you may need to research this information) and compare the differences.  Do not choose a complimentary culture unless you can show the nuances of difference between the two.

3.Highlight where you think there may be problems in communication due to cultural difference.
Task 2

Over the next week record any instances where you encounter conflict in your workplace or similar group.

1.Describe the cicumstances surrounding the conflict, the parties involved, the outcome that both you and the other party/ies wanted to achieve and the process you followed to attempt to resolve the conflict.

2.Reflect on and describe the outcomes that were achieved.

3.Were you satisfied with the resolution?  

Did you use a mediator/  What role did they play?  

Did you have to compromise on the outcome you wished to achieve?  

What lessons did you learn?
