Assume that you have been assigned to a project team at work. The team consists of yourself and 4 other colleagues. Two of your colleagues are based in the US and one is based in the UK. Yourself and the 5th team member are based in (your location). From your studies of Organisational Behaviour you recognise the value of good teamwork. You also recognise that for the team to work effectively, it is important that all team members trust one another. Identify and explain one strategy that you think will help develop a strong level of trust among the team?
There are several compulsory stages to this assignment.
1. At the end of the week 8 tutorial, students will be given a straight-forward question that relates to a typical organisational problem or issue. Working on your own, each student is to consider and develop a possible solution (which only needs to be explained in a single sentence).
2. In the week 9 tutorial, students will be placed in groups of 4-5. The group will have 30mins to discuss the various solutions put forward by each individual group member and decide which one to adopt. This is the only part of the task where students work together on the assignment.
3. Each individual student submits a report describing their group’s decision-making process. In the report, students are to explicitly identify and discuss:
a. The solution that they themselves developed and presented to the group.
b. The solutions suggested by other group members.
c. How the group came to its decision (i.e. how they selected one particular solution).
d. How the characteristics of the group influenced the level of collaboration and/or conflict among the group members.
e. Recommendations for improving the decision-making process if a similar task were to be undertaken in the future.
