Case description
The Indian conglomerate, the Adani Group, proposed to build an integrated coal mind, rail and port project in Queensland (hereinafter referred to as The Project). The company stated that it intends to ship the coal to India for the use of its power stations. The three main components of The Project are:
Extra information: The Adani Group owns large coal power stations and transmission infrastructure in India. It plans to own all aspects of the power infrastructure in India. Recently, the media has reported that the company has failed to provide sufficient environmental consideration in its business operation in India.
The two assignments are closely related, where the knowledge acquired from the literature review in Assignment 2 will inform the content of your report in Assignment 3.
In Assignment 2, you will acquire some foundations and understanding to establish the “appropriate approach” to conduct the economic evaluation of the Project, using the concepts, theories and techniques introduce in both the lectures and reading materials.
In assignment 3, you will critically evaluate the report prepared by Adani (as the project owner), against the appropriate approach you identified in Assignment 2.
You are required to familiar yourselves with the case study and materials in the recommended readings (see section 3), and encouraged to seek out additional materials to achieve the best results for in both assignments.
The concepts, theories and techniques relevant to the assessment include (but not limited to):
Question 1 : Provide critical analysis of Fahrer (2015)
Question 2: Suppose that you are requested to re-conduct the socio-economic cost and benefit analysis for the project, what would you do in order to improve the quality of the analysis. Few areas of focus: classification and quantification of impacts, monetary valuation of impacts, analysis of impacts, costs and benefits among stakeholders. Provide suggestions and justifications for your suggestions.
