Topic : Mental health issue among international student (debate)
Who is responsible for this, the education system, the students , the environment?/
Why it is still a burning issue?
1) Pick a debate of your choice. A good way to refine your topic is to ask a question. For example, your topic question could be, “Does performance pay for teachers increase student outcomes?” or “What are the benefits and disadvantages of constructivism?” or “Do learning styles really exist?” This question can then be the title of your paper.
2) Search, read and analyse relevant primary and secondary sources (first-hand accounts, interviews, original material and evaluations and syntheses such as the academic literature, policy documents, reports and other analyses). NOTE: you do not have ethics clearance to conduct research with human subjects. This means absolutely no interviewing!
3) Develop a thesis statement. A thesis statement should be concrete, debatable and specific. For example, “School funding policy in Australia is complex and interesting” is a bad thesis statement because it doesn’t tell us anything new or substantive, nor is it something we can make an argument about. A much better statement is “Australia’s school funding policy is neither effective nor fair.” To help make this clear, a thesis statement reflects the position the author is taking, is an explicit statement, each body part builds the argument/thesis, and is debatable/arguable.
4) Write the paper, using the secondary sources to support the argument and thesis. State your thesis in the beginning of the paper, then argue it paragraph by paragraph.
