Leadership has been an imponderable notion for me. Those people that I have met while working as a 2 years Specialised Dementia Carer and progressed to a more challenging team leader career role in a Dementia Specific Aged Care Facility for 3 years now have greatly influenced my definition of leadership. As a team leader, I am responsible for leading, developing, supporting and creating a client-focused team to deliver and improve quality of life for people in need especially those who are suffering from dementia.
In my 9 days shift a fortnight; I am dealing with different people with distinctive beliefs and values. It is extremely difficult to be incredibly self aware without feedback from others. Moreover, asking for their feedback is very useful as it serves as a guide for a great sense of direction. In addition to that, combining the variant proficiencies and knowledge of culturally diverse employees together can enormously advantageous and can intensify the receptiveness and efficiency of the team to adjust to the varying circumstances. Thereby supporting the team with their improvement generates an opportunity for everyone’s personal growth and development.
