Objectives

• Appraising and explaining the impact (positive and negative) of globalisation on the external business environment.

• Applying relevant framework to diagnose macro factors affecting the current business operating conditions within an industry.

• Critically thinking and describing the positive and negative impacts that the external environment presents for the industry’s operating conditions.

• Understand and explain globalisation and what it means to be a global citizen This is an individual assignment. Students are not permitted to work in a group when writing this assignment.

Tasks

This assessment requires you to research and write an academic report on the external (macro-) factors (global and local) affecting the operating environment of ‘Retail Trade’ industry. It is suggested you base your research on the factors described within the PESTLE external environment model – make sure your research and discussion are contextualised to reflect the ‘Retail Trade’ industry. In completing the research report, you are required to do the following:

• Describe the importance of the external environment on business operating conditions, within a global context.

• Apply and explain the influence of PESTLE factors on the Retail Trade industry’s operating conditions.

• Write a 1500-word report following the suggested structure/criteria provided below.

• Submit your report in a single Microsoft Word document. Name the file xxx_bus1bfx_Assessment 2.docx (where xxx is your student number).
