Ford and Taylorism
The e-learning video reveals the effect of Taylorism on mass production of Ford car manufacturing company. Taylorism means division of labour that is breaking a job into small, repetitive fragments, each of which can be done at speed by workers with little formal training. Before this concept, ford workers take several weeks to manufacture a car but when Henry ford follows Frederick technique, he became the first to utilize logical management strategies at his manufacturing plant, Taylorism implied separating vehicle creation into uncomplicated repeated steps there would be no requirement for talented workers, workers could learn to do jobs rapidly. In 1913 Ford presented his most progressive change yet, his thought was, rather than workers moving around to collect the item, why not get the item to move past the labourers and in this manner he made the sequential construction system. Thomas Friedman on Globalisation; 3 Eras of Globalisation; World is flat
In this video, Thomas Friedman gives his views on globalisation. He explains the three stages of globalisation including the following: The first era involved countries globalizing from around 1400 to 1800. He named it as”1.0” globalisation. It shrinks the size of world from large to medium and the main agent of globalisation is country for instance colonisation of Britain in India. The second era of globalisation involves companies and multinationals globalizing from 1800 to 2000.It has shrunk the size of world from medium to small. He named this type of globalisation as “2.0” globalisation. The third era is when the universe became flat because individuals and small groups from all nations began globalizing itself after 2000.It has shrunk the size of world from small to tiny (James, 2006).

1) Would workers in Australia, America or Europe accept the Taylorism in this form today?
Currently, workers across Australia, America or Europe would not accept Taylorism in its original form because the time has changed with technology & automation and there is certainly no wisdom in applying the established concept.
2) Consider the design of scripts for use in Call Centres, can you see Taylorism in that?
Theory of Taylorism in call centres is considered to some extent but not completely. Work in call centre is basically divided into different sectors specialising in niche. There can be division of work in a the call centre depending on the area of expertise of employees and job roles can be assigned to each employee accordingly.
3) This ‘clip’ is showing history from 100 years ago. Some would say that ‘the world has moved on’ and these ideas are out of date. However, could there be parts of the world today for which these ideas might be just what they need? Explain.
Absolutely, there would certainly be industries across the world, which require the judicious application of the ideas as entailed above. foundation theory of scientific management was introduced a century ago, the principles which are gotten through this theory have a long lasting effect. The disadvantages of living in the flat world are discussed below:

Yes, I agree with the Friedman iron rule. According to this rule, when world is flat, whatever can be done will be done. And it will be done by only you. So, nowadays people can do things accordingly due to advancement of technology (Thomas, 2007)
3Is the level of globalisation uniform across the world?
The level of globalisation is not uniform throughout the world due to Political, cultural and economic factors. Every country has its own social and cultural values which lead to non uniformity in globalisation. Also every nation has its own political rules so world is not totally uniform.
