Introduction

The reflective activities help to develop self-awareness; this will help in obtaining some of the processes that will help self-improvement. Some of the challenges that may sometimes appear during a clinical practice can be overcome. Several reflections have been done to make a greater number of experiences. It also assists in sorting out dilemmas; the purpose of reflection supports the development of a better understanding of oneself (Rasheed et al., 2019, p.765). With greater learnings, this helps develop knowledge and abilities that help perform the best of everything.

The strengths and weaknesses do change with the flow of the work, and it makes aware of certain things quickly, for example, mood and the experiences of certain events. Some of the traits and qualities will help to develop reflective habits and goals. Self-awareness is important that helps understand oneself; this will help develop motivations, values, and skills. The reflective practices provide great satisfaction in developing self-awareness. Self-awareness is a vital component, and it is important for creating thinking skills. It also supports active work progress in various health sectors (Younas et al., 2020, p.400). Reflective practises support learning the errors or mistakes made in past experiences, which can be avoided in the future by putting some of the best approaches into knowledge.

Wound management and care

The important principles for care and management of wounds are haemostasis, cleaning of the wounded area, providing analgesia, closure of skin and providing proper dressing and advice to the patients. Haemostasis aims for preventing bleeding. Sometimes in case of heavy bleeding, different steps need to be followed to support the process of haemostasis. Wound cleaning is carried out to minimize the infection and to promote the healing process. Disinfectants such as antiseptics are used in the cleaning of wounds (Tottoli et al., 2020, p735). Analgesia helps in the easy closure of the wounds. Skin closure is done with the help of different methods, such as by applying sutures, staples and skin adhesive strips. The main aim of wound care is to give the maximum conditions that help in increasing the quality of care and quality of health care services.

Wound care has now been observed as constantly evolving as these are the major requirement of health care sectors in providing better services. Wound care is an important work in any health organization, and it is concerned with the cleaning and dressing of the wounds. The wound dressings mainly depend on various factors, and its dressing varies on different factors; these can be the type of wound, the area where the wound is located, and local guidelines. A proper dressing can be carried out when provided with a healing environment and also to regulate humidity (Mohandas et al., 2018, p270). The wounded should be sterile, or it should not have any of the infected particles.

Reflection

Working on the surgical ward, I have noticed that a patient, Brat (Pseudo name), got fresh dressing a few days ago due to the puncture wounds; after some days, the dressing appeared shabby, and it has become loose on the edges. There was a bad smell coming out from the wound area of the dressing; this odour can be necrotic or due to some of the infections caused on the wounded region. Odours are commonly observed where the patients have chronic wounds; this is mainly observed in the case of leg ulcers and fungating wounds. The first step to caring for the punctured wound is to control the bleeding, Brut was bleeding heavily, and the bleeding was prevented by putting pressure on the wounded region and holding it for about fifteen minutes. Pressures points such as the popliteal artery were taken into consideration to stop the bleeding. Puncture wounds are caused by a forceful injury that usually penetrates the skin. These wounds usually risk getting infections as they need extra safety for cleaning the wound. In the majority of the cases, these wounds get infected by microbes, so antimicrobial bandages are required to enhance the process of healing.

Occlusive dressings enhance cell proliferation, and there is an increased risk of getting infections. Person-centred care can be provided to the patients to achieve the best results in wound care. This will increase the value of the patient's perspective and develop good cultural ethics in the health care sector. A person-centred approach is applied to put the patient's needs first. The wound care is provided according to the type of disease. These puncture wounds can be taken care of by initially washing the wound with hands; this will help prevent the infections, then gentle pressure is applied to stop the bleeding, a bandage has been put in order to avoid bleeding. After applying the pressure, the wound is cleaned and rinsed through clear water; this is necessary to remove the dirt particles or remains of debris near the wounded area. The wound has been cleaned with the help of a clean cloth so that the dirt can be removed thoroughly. Then I have applied a layer of antibiotics to prevent bacterial infections. The bandage is applied over the wound; this would help to clean the wound. Puncture wounds need to be changed daily or when the wound becomes wet or obtains dirt over it.

Brut got some swelling near the wound; when he came for redressing, this had got bacterial infections near the wounds, redness is observed near the wounded area. Infections can be controlled by adopting different aspects of care; infections can impact the services provided by the health care sectors. As brut has got redness and infections near the wounded area, this has disrupted the healing process as the spreading rate of infection is greater. Therefore antimicrobial dressing is being provided to Brut during redressing. The antimicrobial dressing includes antiseptic agents that would help prevent the infection and wound management. Antibiotic therapy is being done to stop the spreading of infections caused by bacteria. This antimicrobial dressing would support the prevention of infections localized to the wound infection. The antiseptic component used in the wound dressing includes cadexomer iodine, silver sulphadiazine and ionic silver. This is required because wound infections usually delay the process of wound healing.

The patient-centred care has made Brut and family members build trust to get effective treatment. This has also enabled the family and patient to bring out the best results during treatment, and it also supports facilitating the patient's input (Sibeoni et al.2018, p.1). The wound education has led to improvement in my profession as a health care practitioner, and it has focused on providing all the requirements required by the patient.

Professional practice in wound care

Nurses in the medical professional teams are committed to incorporating medical facilities to treat various disorders. They are enabled to manage environmental issues and can manage nursing care. In health care sectors, a person-centred approach needs to be taken care of. There is a lot of scope in practising nursing as wound care treatment as this would generally need experts equipped with some of the good skills to identify the type of wound and provide the best care to the patients. Many clinical practitioners want to increase the knowledge behind wound care (Gray et al. 2019). The steps taken into wound care have improved the nursing skills towards developing skilled practices (Fatima et al. 2018).

It enables to improve the confidence, which ultimately leads to minimizing the turnover, and therefore it assists satisfaction of the medical professionals. Professional development is obtained through regular practises and training. It will help in increasing the responsibilities towards the career. This also enables one to self evaluate and become responsible towards the patient. This will allow the patients to become open-minded and make connections with the patients. Patient satisfaction is also important for the care delivery systems. Wound care helps the nurses choose the appropriate preparation for treating any type of wound (Manzoor et al.2019). It will help to gain knowledge about the benefits and limitations of the bandages and wounds.

Conclusion

The nursing profession has been grateful for human welfare; this profession has provided great value for marinating good relationships with patients and other medical staff. It has provided good opportunities for nurses to improve their careers and improve their skills. Reflective practice has enabled the nurses to learn new things and develop new insights, and it has made us avoid the mistakes that are repeated repeatedly. The reflective purpose supports in clarifying the ideas, and it has been action-oriented, and sometimes it can be a personal feeling. Reflection supports various decision-making processes that can examine our own creativity and ideas in applying the different kinds of treatment for various injuries. It also enables us to think in a better way. Reflection also assists in planning and in executing the lessons as this supports questions that reflect upon the planning that has been done for the execution of any process. Self-reflection enables anyone to interpret or to assess the situations and how to behave as per situation or condition. This will assist in the progression towards professional learning and meeting the patients' requirements. Self-awareness is a great tool that supports improvement in professional performances
