Task:

Task Description:

1. Familiarise yourself with Clinical Guideline RANZCOG Intrapartum Fetal Surveillance 

2. Using the AGREE II tool appraise the quality of the Clinical Guideline 

3. Using the Midwifery@Griffith Meta-Values and cues (on the meta-values document provided) as a framework provide an indepth critique (critical analysis) of the Clinical Guideline, supplement(s)  and flow charts.

Provide a short, 1-2 paragraph introduction to your critique outlining why you chose the particular guideline, include an outline of how you are presenting your critique and which Meta-values you are focusing on. 

•Summarise the guideline (what does it look like e.g. how is it set out): Assume the reader of your paper has not viewed the guideline and that you are the sole mediator for their understanding of its qualities or inadequacies. What is the overall objective/aim of this guideline? (This section is descriptive and should be 1-2 paragraphs).

3. The main purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate how you can showcase your critical thinking and use a critical lens to review your chosen guideline. Analysis means to break down and study the parts. Writing a critical paper requires two steps: critical reading and critical writing.

Points to consider when addressing this critique:

1. What is the main aim/purpose of clincial guidelines within midwifery practice and the criteria we use to justify integration of the guidleine within evidence informed practice ? 

2. Analyse the structure of the guideline 

3. Write a summary – introduce the work – don’t assume that the reader knows detail about the guideline

4. Avoid the use of “I think” or in my opinion” keep you focus on the guideline and the content.

5. Why do maternity services have guidelines and how could/would you and other midwives incorporate using this guideline into your/their everyday day practice?

6. Interpret the guideline (what does it mean?), Take a systematic approach and objectively review the guideline using the meta-values and cues to highlight both its strengths and weaknesses and its applicability to practice. Is it best evidenced based clinical practice? Is midwifery research and researchers evident throughout the guideline eg a Woman centred approach 

7. Do you have any recommendations: e.g. updated evidence/research, input from other experts, gaps. Or if not recommended changes why not? Justify your stance.
