INFT6009 Cloud Computing and Mobile Applications for the Enterprise

Prepare a demonstration of cloud and mobile technologies to the directors of a technology company. At this stage they are looking for a concept only. You will prepare a draft plan of your own project that uses cloud and/or mobile technologies. This project is meant to be your own individual work, and should be a practical project that uses the techniques discussed in this course, for example:
A mobile App using the techniques taught in this course, written using TouchDevelop
A piece of software that uses a connection to a cloud service, written using TouchDevelop.

The idea behind the app is to provide a easier way to manage their courses using a mobile  app. The application will categorize the courses according to the streams which will reduce the time to search for a specific course. The app will help the administrators to list and update the courses for a specific time period such as spring or summer session. The app will notify the users whenever a new update is done for their respective course. 

For this app it is important to have read access to the university database so that the courses can be listed on the apps. In case the access is not available or granted and then XML document can be used for the listing of the courses on the app.  The users will be able to access the app by registering via their e-mail address and Facebook profile. The users will be able to apply for a specific course that may be forwarded by the admin of the  app.  

The TouchDevelop will be used to develop the application that provides a interactive way to design and implement the different functionalities of the app.   This development platform helps in developing the mobile apps on the go using smart phone or device rather than using a work station having high hardware configuration.  The applications are able to access different device features (web, sensors, camera ) in order  to provide consistent user experience.  

The contacts, calendar, email can be used by the developed app in TouchDevelop. The email feature of the smart devices will be helpful in notifying the confirmation about the enrolment of a student through the application.  Huge  number of scripts available for this platform will help in developing the application that will meet the requirements of the students.  The mobile app will be also helpful for the students as they will be able to access the academic resources after the completion and confirmation of the enrolment. 

 The app will have Tell-A-Friend feature. This feature enables the users or students to share different informations over Email, SMS, Facebook and Twitter Different educational events will be posted using the event listing section of the app and the student will be notified using the push notification feature of smart phones. The application will also consist of blog integration that will help the students easily find and read any blogs posted by their departments. 

The app will consist of contact us tab or page for the students so that students can query about anything. The Soundcloud will be integrated with the application so that students and users can listen any audio file uploaded to their student portal.  The analytics tab of the app will be helpful in colleting the performance of the application. This will help the number of users installed the app and how many of them enrolled for any course. 

The Touchdevelop is a code editor that uses cloud services to store scripts by a developer to develop a app. The developers or the user can access their scripts trough browsers on desktop or by their phones. The developed applications are compiled and executed in the TouchDevelop run time environment. The previous scripts developed by  other developers can be searched, edited and used in the future app development projects. 

This project will help the users/students to easily enroll for a course in a university  with out a work station instead suing their smart phones.  The students will find the courses according to their interest with lesser amount of effort compared to the sites. The universities or colleges will have better control over the administrative process of enrolment to courses to notifying the students about different events. Analytics and social platform integration will be helpful for the students to share their learning experience in a specific  

The above are the primary features of the proposed course management app for a university or institution. In future the different features will be added to the app. Features like payment of fees through the app, locating the nearest campus of the institution. Use of the TouchDevelop editor and different available scripts will help in faster prototyping and feature amendment to the app.
