The three skills are communication skills, team work and problem solving skills. In this report, a short term and a long term plan has been created to improve the three skills over a period of 8 weeks and 2 years.

Communication skills

 

Communication skills can be defined as the ability of a person to effectively share and perceive information. The sharing or perceiving of information can be done through verbal communication as well as non-verbal communication, such as body language, eye contact, etc. Communication skills are developed over a period of time but can be considerably improved in a matter of 8 weeks too.

To improve communication skills in the short term, one of the most effective ways can be to read certain books and be part of certain online courses that can provide a great deal of guidance to improve communication skills. Such courses can provide certain instructions that can help in improving communication skills in a short period of time, such as by carefully listening to what others are saying before perceiving information and replying to it. Being a careful listener can greatly help in improving communication skills in a short term (Pinola, 2014).

 

Communication skills can be greatly improving over a period of two years. To improve communication skills over a long term period, one can learn to be organised before communicating. Even though it is not always possible to get into conversations being planned but one should try to outline and organise his or her thoughts before starting to communicate. To develop team working skills in a short period of time, a person again needs to increase his or her listening skills because a careful listener can always become an efficient team member. Further, learning and preparing to adjust in diverse situations without complaining can also help in increasing team working skills in a short span of time. To develop team working skills in the longer run, one should try to form teams and work in teams as much as possible. Gaining practical experience will help a person in becoming aware about his or her own barriers that prevents him or her from working with others, for example, communication skills, adjustment, assertiveness, etc. Thus, working on the removal of these barriers will help in increasing team working skills. Further, to improve team working skills, one should learn to take collective responsibilities and increase human psychology knowledge so that one can understand the situation that the team members are going through and keep them motivated to perform better. In the long run, a person can greatly increase his or her problem solving skills. One of the best way to increase problem solving skills is to work out one’s brain with logic puzzles and games, such as Sudoku, chess, Rubik’s cube, etc. Such games can help in boosting thinking capability, which will ultimately help in problem solving. Further, to increase problem solving skills in the longer run, one can also work on his or her ability to create psychological distance, which is defined as the ability of a person to perceive things or situations from the view point or perspective of some other person. The ability of a person to create a psychological distance in difficult situation can have a great impact on a person’s problem solving capability (CMOE Team , n.d.). Lastly, playing sports and physical games regularly can help in learning to regulate pressure in difficult situations and can help in increasing problem solving skills. Therefore, one must play a game on a regular basis.
