Identify a civil engineering construction project that you can obtain access to and gather information on so as to write a project report. It is anticipated that such a project will be of a reasonable size. It does not have to be a multimillion dollar project. Check with your tutor if you are unsure of a project’s suitability.
Health and safety warning: If you are entering a construction site you are expected to comply with all health and safety requirements of the site. You are responsible to obtain any and all permissions to access a site.
You are required to write a project report covering as many of these points as is reasonably possible. (Not all items may be relevant to your chosen project):
1.Initial plan and design considerations
2.Plant and equipment
3.Environmental impacts.
4.Construction techniques used
5.Site layout
6.Health and safety
7.Evaluation of project output
You are required to give a presentation to the class explaining the findings of your ‘Project Report’. The presentation will be about 15 – 30 minutes). This presentation will be judged by the class on the grounds of useful and interesting information as well as overall quality of presentation. The presentation will be presented live using the usual tutorial software.
The presentations will be presented during a special tutorial session after Topic 12 tutorial and before exam week. There is no exam in this unit.
The project presentation will be marked by a combination of class members, the unit tutor and invited guests. (a marking guide and schedule will be issued to each ‘marker’ to assist) The unit tutor will moderate the class marking to the appropriate level.
This acknowledges your attendance and participation in the judging of class presentations.
