According to the World Health Organisation, “the vulnerabilities for people living with HIV/AIDS result in the disproportionate impact of HIV in all countries, including Australia. These disproportionate risks reflect specific legal and social issues that increase the vulnerability of this population. Despite this awareness, HIV services for key populations remain largely inadequate” (WHO, 2016).
Assignment question:
In an Australian context, describe the impact that HIV/AIDS has on individuals, families and the community in Australia. Discuss how community nurses can use the principles of primary health care to protect and promote health for people at risk of exposure to HIV and for people living with HIV/AIDS. Include in your discussion, the interventions used by community nurses to protect and promote health for this vulnerable population.
