In Australia breastfeeding initiation rates are 96% before discharge however at 4 months this rate has dropped to 61.6% (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare [AIHW]

Assignment question

Drawing on Sara’s care across the continuum (case study on the Cloud), explore one (1) antenatal and two (2) intrapartum factors that may positively influence Sara’s initiation and continuation of breastfeeding in the early weeks following birth.

Include in your response, evidence based strategies that health professionals may utilise to support Sara to breastfeed.
