You must answer each of the 4 short answer questions.  

You are NOT required (but are welcome to do so) to undertake any further research for this assessment task. You must use and cite Module 1 and 2 readings, however.   Your answers must draw from the readings in Module 1 and 2.   You are required to use the Deakin Harvard referencing style correctly and consistently.

1) Surveillance and crime control is about ‘techniques for identifying, classifying and managing groups assorted by levels of dangerousness’. Please identify and discuss a ‘real-world’ example of surveillance as a strategy of crime control and describe the negative consequences that might also arise as part of a surveillance focused response to crime. Please be sure to reference the readings. (200 words references not counted) 

2) What is the panoptic model of surveillance? Does David Lyon suggest it is limited for explaining practices of surveillance? If so, in what ways? Do you agree/disagree? Support your answer with references. (200 words, references not counted) 

3) Haggerty and Ericson (2000) refer to several attributes of the ‘surveillant assemblage’. Please define the surveillant assemblage. Second, please describe how a ‘multi-agency partnership’ in national security or policing might be understood as a surveillant assemblage. Provide an example of a multi-agency national security or policing partnership in Australia to illustrate your response in detail, relying on the concepts from Haggerty and Ericson (2000). 4) O’Malley (2010) refers to ‘simulated justice’. What does this mean? How has ‘justice’ changed in the context of ‘telemetric policing’ that O’Malley describes? Provide an example to illustrate your argument. (300 Words, references not counted)
