EED403 Environmental Sustainability in Early Childhood

Task:

This assessment requires you to complete two sections; Part a, a rationale, and part b, an environmental sustainability program for an early childhood setting.

Part a) Rationale:

Write a rationale for implementing an environmentally sustainable program in an early childhood service that explains your understanding of sustainability and its connections to the learning outcomes for the children at the service. You will need to discuss the concepts, theories and practices behind the ideas and link the curriculum to the EYLF, NQF and ECA Code of Ethics. Discuss why sustainability education is needed, specifically in EC settings, and what this might "look like". What is needed to make a good early childhood sustainability program and why is this important? Think about all stakeholders (children, families, staff and community).This part of the assignment should be approximately 1500 words in length and should include references. The rationale should be written in an essay format, with a clear introduction, body and conclusion.

Part b) Program:  

Design your own program for an early childhood service that would be implemented over a period of 6 weeks. You should do this separately for each area listed below. The curriculum should focus on accurate science and information gained from your reading in this subject. It should cover the 3 - 5 age group. 

In your program, you must include links to both the indoor and outdoor environment, as well as family involvement, children's involvement, and community involvement for all areas. For each area you should also include an overall "Aim" and some "Objectives" that link to the EYLF.
