Introduction

Conducting an interview can be anxious for a dietician as they are required to get full information concerning the patient's requirement. The general interview initiates with some of the personal questions, and it gets continued with some of the situational questions. In an interview, an interviewer can ask about your choice goals, education and variety of future or ongoing plans (Grau Canet-Wittkampf et al., 2020). Sometimes patients may feel anxiety, nervousness, and stress; in such cases, the interviewer has to try to handle the situation so that patients can express their challenges openly (Mehta et al., 2018). While taking an interview, a dietician should keep the environment, or the place where the interview needs to be taken should be cosy so that patients or clients do not feel isolated and uncomfortable. Sometimes patients are observed to have anxiety and wandering, and this is not a good sign for clients as they will not be able to express (Gable & Hermann, 2016).

Personal Reflection

The environment of the interview place has been made cosy, and seatings have been done in such a way that it will not hinder the process of the interview. All the settings have been made so that listener is able to communicate effectively. I have arranged a proper setting for conducting an interview, and on the desk, some obstacles such as computers that will cut off the communication with patients have been removed. This has been done to observe or to notice patients' behavior, such as tapping of foot and any other difficulty if the patient is facing. Sitting just opposite the patient will make the patient feel intimate, so I preferred to sit diagonally so that personal space could be maintained.

This will help in creating a positive relationship with the patient. While asking the queries with the patients, the patient should be given time to think it over (Gable & Hermann, 2016). A calm and composed surrounding was there, facilitating the patients in effective communication and counselling (Blazin et al., 2018). The agenda of the counselling or interview was made very clear so that various issues of patients can be identified easily (Gable & Hermann,2016). I have asked the patient to take a deep breath and can be asked to get away from the tense situation. A patent with a calm mind will be able to express the issues effectively (Giovanna et al., 2019). Sometimes a difficult situation may arise because of the patients' eating habits, and they do not want to change their habits. In such cases, they can be motivated how the healthy eating habits can change the lifestyle and problems.

Self-esteem is another factor that should be maintained while speaking to others or with the patients, and some of the questions can be asked whether they are very well with the diet plans and other challenges. I have maintained positive relationships and valued the feelings and thoughts of the patients. Diet plans and other information should be a handful; this will support an easy understanding of the patient's perspective. Being assertive can be helpful, but sometimes it can negatively impact the client. The self-awareness skill helps in becoming mindful, and it helps in getting more knowledge of the client's health issues (Gable & Hermann,2016).

Conclusion

The important aspect of conducting counselling and interview is to make the patient comfortable and listen to their problems very effectively. The situation when remaining calm will support in asking as many questions from patients as it will assist in resolving the issues of patients. An interviewer can ask for general diet plans and supplements taken to meet the energy levels to accept the challenges. Personal space should be provided; this will support the patients to speak freely, and for the observer also, interviewers will be able to observe the patient's behaviour.
