Some tips from lecture slides: Robotics

• Refers to the design, manufacture and use of robots, as well as the computer systems which control them.

• Robots make use of sensors and increasingly rely on artificial intelligence to assist in decision making.

• Advantages include their superior speed and accuracy, robots don’t get bored, don’t need breaks and can do jobs that are dangerous or people are unwilling to do.

• A major hurdle is the perception that the increasing number of robots will take jobs away from human. The impact of robots on jobs is unclear at this stage as the productivity gains from using robots may result in jobs being created elsewhere in the business.

• Robots can help solve environmental issues, fight against climate change…, however also cause environmental concerns for the materials they are made of and energy they consume
