Question:

Develop and demonstrate your skills in the use of project management concepts, principles, theories and arguments about project management execution and closing. You are particularly required to demonstrate your ability to differentiate aspects of the life cycle as it relates to different projects.

You must then be able to analyse and argue what type of control systems will enable better or worse project outcomes within those domains. The secondary purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to enhance your analysis, critical thinking and written communication skills; particularly in the areas of argument development and oral presentation.

Answer:

Project management is the planning, controlling, guiding and executive an idea till the end with an aim of achieving certain set goals and objectives. It consist of four steps which are: initiating, planning, execution and closure which involves a review of the project. It is vital for a project to follow these steps to increase its chances of being viable and effective in its purpose.

This is basically a micro-controller system that makes use of the electrical engineering waste products like the steam turns it to water which can be used for irrigation and watering the plants or flowers especially in greenhouses. The system is one of the most important projects that the agricultural sector of a country can use to upgrade its agricultural status (Ilie-Ablachim et al, 2016). Therefore, the control system will help improve the environmental conditions (e.g. climate, soil pH and moisture, temperature) necessary for plant growth and increase in yields than the other common areas (Juárez-Gutiérrez et al, 2016).

For every project to succeed, the project manager has to consider the usual project life cycle which are: initiation, planning, execution and closure. However, the right idea has to be born, reviewed and approved before it is planned on. The manager has to identify a need for the project first which is a better way to facilitate solution brainstorm.  My project will be able to help the engineers determine the soil moisture, temperature as well as the climatic conditions suitable for certain crops to be grown the greenhouses (Ilie-Ablachim et al, 2016).

Business Case

This is either a verbal argument or written document that is conducted in the beginning of a project to give the plans and schedule of the project. It is simply a justification of the reasoning and the rationale for conducting the project. It reviews the risks, costs, benefits, effects among other things that will be caused by the project implementation. Therefore, the my project manager will have to provide all the above evidence and requirements for the project to be implemented.

Project Planning

This is a step by step schedule and indication of procedures that made by a project manager for guidance. It has to be based on the costs, risks, benefits, goals and objectives set for the project itself. E.g. the purpose for our project is to build a simple system that will be able to put into use the geothermal steam into water that is safe to use for irrigation in the greenhouses (Qiu et al, 2014).  In my project, there will be a financial analysis, materials like project engineers, designers, greenhouse, crops, water, energy, system integration to name a few.

Project Execution

This is the putting into action the idea that was planned and approved by the project management team with an aim of producing the product or service intended for the project. It involves the monitoring and controlling of every activity and making the right decisions for the benefit of project success. Therefore, for my project I am going to make sure that my exact idea and plan on greenhouse environmental control system is put into effect and that it functions as it should. The manager should ensure that the project meets the objectives and goals that were expected to be achieved at the end of it all (Du et al, 2013).

Project Closure

This is usually the final phase of the project management cycle. This is where the manager conducts a review of the whole project process and especially if it has achieved its set goals and objectives.  The manager should ensure that the project meets the objectives and goals that were expected to be achieved at the end of it all (Du et al, 2013). To be specific it should be able to support plant or flower growth and development and increase their yield with time as much as possible (Juárez-Gutiérrez et al, 2016).

Conclusion

Every project needs to follow the project management cycle for it to be successful. However, even before the project is started the idea has to be decided upon which is entirely determined by the fact whether there is a gap in the area or not. However, a project can only succeed if there is a great need for it. The greenhouse environmental control system will help make use of the steam and water considered as wastes for irrigation and greenhouse maintenance.
